RNFA, Registered Nurse First Assistant


 


POSITION SUMMARY:


 


The Registered Nurse First Assistant is a perioperative nurse who works in collaboration with the surgeon and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.  


During the assisting phase and until conclusion of the operative procedure the RNFA is under the direction of the Surgeon.  


 


As needed, the RNFA may provide patient care by circulating or scrubbing surgical procedures.  During surgical procedures the RNFA does not function concurrently as a Scrub Nurse. 


 


The RNFA provides personalized patient care for the preoperative and postoperative phases by using the perioperative nursing process to plan and implement patient care and education.  



The Registered Nurse First Assistant is credentialed through the medical staff as allied health provider.



Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours.

A.  Education and/or Experience 


                                                  
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.  Must have and maintain CNOR certification. Must have and maintain current BLS and ACLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Must have proof of current nursing malpractice insurance.
B.  Language Skills     


                                       
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
C.  Mathematical Skills     


                                                
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.
D.  Reasoning Ability      


                                                   
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
E.  Computer Skills  


                                                          
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.

Monday - Friday position does involve call during the week and weekends on a rotating basis.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.

Candidate must have RNFA certification from an accredited program.


Pay range for this position is $36.41 - $50.97 DOE.  $10,000 sign on bonus paid out over 2 years.  


Relocation assistance available with candidates that have a minimum of 3 years experience. 
 


 
PATIENT POPULATION:
The Surgical Services Department provides care for patients ranging from infant to geriatric who are undergoing either inpatient or outpatient surgical and/or invasive procedures.
