Director of ICU Intensive Care Unit


Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives established in conjunction with upper management, such as, quality improvement, fiscal productivity, and patient satisfaction. Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer, and the Director ICU will lead in planning, directing and managing the department and staff to assure quality service on a 24-hour basis for the Intensive Care Unit.

Minimum Education
Graduate of a Program in Professional Nursing 


 


Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure continuity of care and appropriateness of nursing coverage to the patients of all units.

Licenses:


Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or compact state 


 


Minimum Work Experience


Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in acute care nursing


One (1) year management experience as a full-time charge nurse, clinical manager, or Nursing Administrative Supervisor


 


Essential Functions


Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.


 


Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.


 


Maintains responsibility for staff performance and the accomplishment of departmental responsibilities.


 


Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.


 


Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.


 


Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.


 


Ensures high-quality patient care by acting as a liaison with patients and their representatives, physicians and employees.


 


Ensures efficient operation of department and optimum use of resources to maximize productivity and minimize costs.


 


Manages supplies and equipment in the unit.


 


Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.


 


Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
